But that is incorrect and is where genetics comes into play. Lets say for
instance I have a 5 pound female, bred to a 4 pound male...they produce
pups within the 4 to 5 pound range, but lo and behold, there is a
throwback female pup that will mature to 7 pounds. That pup (considering
everything else is good too) is the perfect pup for me to keep to breed.
The linage is small but the pup will be big enough to breed safely. While
meeting the standards of the breed iw a high priority...the safety of our
mommas is TOP priority.

If you think that all these show dogs out there come from momma's under 6
pounds, then I am afraid you are in for a surprise.....because they don't.
They come for (for example) 7 pound mommas and 3 pound daddys.....

Also, the same applies for faults. If you have a parent that has a fault,
that does not neccessarily mean you do not breed them, that means you
breed to another parent that will compensate for that fault. The goal is
what is produced, not what is being used to produce it. But again, safety
of the momma is paramount.
