Just curious, with these larger females/smaller males, don't breeders get a lot
of oversized Chis?  The mother must pass on something to the pups.  I would
think that size ( of momma and daddy) would be something that can be passed on
to some pups???  Maybe that's why we've ended up with so many oversized
Chihuahuas out there.  Just wondering because I have never heard of a show
breeder breeding a female over 6 pounds.

right....we do strive to improve the standards... .which is why we use
smaller males to bring the size of the pups down within range. The AKC
standards call for 6 pounds or less. We try to produce pups that are 6
pounds or less (but the bigger ones are still chis!) BUT, we were not
talking about the pups produced, we were talking about the momma's that
produce those pups. Often times, the mommas do NOT meet the size
standards. But that is ok because the pups they produce do. Using a bigger
momma to produce the standard meeting sizes, is safer.....the smaller the
momma the bigger the chance of c-sections and complications.

I think I am just not explaining myself well because I used a word that
threw you when I first started. I used the word standard, but I was using
it in a different form than what you were taking it as. so let me try
again using a better word, lol.

Starting all over.....the AKC standards call for a chi to be 6 pounds or
less. That is what we try to produce.

However, it is a NORM (?) to use a bigger than 6 pounds momma to breed. It
is not unusual, is common, is acceptable (any of those work? lol) to use 6
to 8 pounds female for breeding purposes. Many of these 6 to 8 pound
mommmas produce great show dogs. When bred to the right male, these 6 to 8
pound mommas produce pups that mature at less than 6 pounds.

Any other breeders out there who can help me out....I fear I have done
such a bad job explaing that I have totally confused everyone, lol.
