Why can't you take her with you? I would start crate training her now, to spend the working hours in it. My Stella will be 7 months old in Septmeber and she spends the work day in her crate. Is your hubby okay watching her while you're at the conference?
Yes...do bring your crate with you camping. This way she will be safe from other dogs/animals getting her (jumping into playpen) and her getting lost. You can also buy some of those camping umbrella that clip onto lawn chairs and clips that to the crate for shade.
