Since your vet is inexperienced with toy breeds you may want to find a vet that
is more familiar with toys.  That way if any problems arise they will more
likely know what to do.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] New LH Chihuahua Owner - Had several other breeds but not
a toy breed

Has anyone run into this, I have a brother and sister LH Chihuahua's. Both are
good eaters, eat a blend of lamb-rice or chicken can with Trader Joe's holistic
dry. The male is a chocolate sable; good weight [4 lbs] shorter legged, longer
torso, thicker body. The female is primarily white with minimal chocolate
spots;
seems to be on the thin [lanky] side, she is longer legged, shorter back and
weigh's in at [3 lbs]. Both are very active and neither seem ill [bright eyes,
good stools, no obvious skin or coat issues] in any way... I had been feeding
them 3x/day, they really only nibbled on lunch so I altered the feeding to be 2
meals, which are now completely eaten, plus they get snacks [Trader Joe's
doggie
jerky and biscuits] for rewards.

I lack experience with toy breeds and want to be sure I am not over-looking any
issues.

They are just 6 months old. The vet seems inexperienced with toy breeds. She
asked what they were and I explained LH Chihuahuas she said oh we don't see LH
much. When they were loosing their puppy coat initially they appeared
'moth-eaten'. The vet said she thought perhaps a skin issue may be the cause
and
I should watch the blotches of thin coat.

I researched online and it appears some Chihuahua's lose their puppy coat in
that exact manner...both now have no more thin blotches and their coat
continues
to come in thicker and softer, his is better than hers but their coats are very
different. Both are getting thicker feathering on legs, haunches, ears, chest
and neck.

Training is going well, they now both can go through the night with no stool in
the crate in the morning. He is about 95% trained, she is a bit behind him but
doing well.

They will soon be going to vet to get their rabies vaccine. I want to be sure I
am not going to over look any issues.

Am I being overly cautious? Anyone ever run into a similar situation?? Any
suggestions to help my sweet little girl?
