Hi Christy, Yes. Would you please send me the recipe and the links. I want to try anything and everything. Today he's had four seizures, each one lasting longer and recovery time is longer and so strange. Running all over the house, trying to jump up on high cabinets and running into corners. I'm very worried and am going to take him to the vet tomorrow. Carolyn

I am an unemployed college student at the moment, but I called around and found a vet that would do the test for 81.50 plus the exam. I know that can seem like a lot too, but do you have care credit? most vets take it and it could help...it wasn't much help for me as I maxed out my credit when my girl had a c-section in Feb. But that is one option. Another option is to try him on a low protein diet...I can get you a homemade recipe and put him on a little lactulose ( you can order it from canada without a rx). You can also try the liver shunt yahoo group...if you want their link I can send it to you. they were very helpful when I was worried about Keeper. Just let me know if you want the low pro diet and other info and I will send it to you. Hope he gets better. If it is a liver shunt and not just seizures seizure meds would just mask a greater issue and could possibly make it worse. I am so sorry you are having to go through this I know it is so hard. The vet said it would cost several hundred dollars to perform just the basic tests and financially that's not an option for me. I, too, am one of those who lost their job. I know it's not fair to the dog to not be able to afford the proper medical care, but I do give him the best food and love. ________________________________ From: Christy Sylvest <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, December 15, 2010 3:24:38 PM Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Phenobarbitol I don't remember, has cooper been checked for a liver shunt? I just had Keeper checked for a round of seizures a couple weeks ago. I know this is really common in small dogs and maybe it could be fixed with a low protein diet and some other meds. Just an idea if he hasn't been checked out I would have a Bile Acid test done and liver enzymes... I believe they get the generic form of the drug at Wal-Mart pharmacy for 4.00. You may want to check Wal-Mart’s website to see if they have it listed on the list of cheaper prescriptions. Just a suggestion. Sorry to hear about little Cooper. My aunt says that their dog, Sugar, is a completely different dog now that she’s on the meds. She’s much happier and more active and hasn’t had a seizure in months. From:[email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of C.M. He had one yesterday afternoon, this morning at 7 and again just a few minutes ago. He's still walking around trying to get his bearing. He doesn't want to be held right now. During this last seizure, he cried out twice as though he was hurting. This is so hard. Maybe it's time to start him on phenobarbitol. Do any of you know how much it costs? Carolyn
