gosh, that was so informative and important because I had no idea the danger involved with giving over the counter tapeworm meds to a chi. What ever would we do without you? Thanks so much Peggy. In a message dated 5/15/2011 4:33:51 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
Joan Tapeworm is different. First of all, she should bring in a stool sample and the Vet would analyze it under a microscope. They get it from eating an infected flea. More times then not, they are cat fleas. The over the counter meds for tapeworm can be very dangerous to give to a chi, especially if given the wrong dosage it can kill a chi. She is better off going to a Vet. He can either give her a shot and she must go back 10 days later for another shot to kill the hatched lavra in her system. Or the Vet can give her a pill and again she must have the pill again in 10 days. I preferred the shot when my maltese got them because the shot dissolves the worm before they pass it out or throw it up and it works within 24 hours whereas the pill takes longer and they still pass it out and throw up the dead worms.
