Gross!!! I think I can smell it now. Brings me back to the days working in
urgent care, seeing and smelling anything and everything! Glad I am not doing
that now too! I think I will wait and see how she is when the antibiotics are
gone. Then if she still has a problem, i will worry about it then

Yes, I have the e collar for her. I don't think I want to be the one to express
the glands, I will take her in for that. I am a nurse and I have seen lots of
stuff but I don't want to see it.

Does she have an e-collar on?  That would prevent her from licking it while it
heals.
It is pretty common for Chihuahuas to have trouble emptying their anal glands
so sometimes it is necessary to express them.  There are examples on the
internet how you can do it yourself, but I just can’t bring myself to do it for
my two.  Usually you know there is a problem when it begins to be a problem for
them to pass stool.  The glands are supposed to secrete oils to help with the
exit, so to speak!
If she is still trying to lick back there, it could be that the antibiotics
haven’t had the chance to kill all the bacteria.
Good luck!

Hi Everyone!
I am the mom to 2 chihuahuas. 1 named Lily who is 4 lbs and Bambi who is 12
lbs. I love them so much! We live in Southern California, Riverside County. It
is 100 degrees here today! I am ready for winter!
I have a question for anyone who may be able to help me. My little girl, Lily
had to go to the vet last week. It cost me $100 which I can not afford. The
problem was one of the anal glands. It had an abscess and it looked like a big
pimple on her little bum:(. The doctor opened it and gave her a shot (you have
never heard something so small make so much noise) I have antibiotics to give
her at home as well. I have noticed her licking or biting at the sore. So, my
question is should I be doing something else for her? She is 2.5 years old and
this is the first time she has had the problem. Does anyone have any
suggestions for me? I don't want to have to take her back to the vet if I can
help it. She will probably flip out if she
sees him again so soon! LOL
Anyway, thanks for reading this and any ideas would be appreciated.
Tracy in CA
