Once they have that problem you have to be vigilant about keeping an eye on their anal glands. Either take them in once a month and have the Vet tech express them for you or learn to do it yourself, like I did. And she needs a collar to keep her away from that sore..until it is all healed. That is a nasty spot and cause further problems if she further infects it. I am the mom to 2 chihuahuas. 1 named Lily who is 4 lbs and Bambi who is 12 lbs. I love them so much! We live in Southern California, Riverside County. It is 100 degrees here today! I am ready for winter! I have a question for anyone who may be able to help me. My little girl, Lily had to go to the vet last week. It cost me $100 which I can not afford. The problem was one of the anal glands. It had an abscess and it looked like a big pimple on her little bum:(. The doctor opened it and gave her a shot (you have never heard something so small make so much noise) I have antibiotics to give her at home as well. I have noticed her licking or biting at the sore. So, my question is should I be doing something else for her? She is 2.5 years old and this is the first time she has had the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't want to have to take her back to the vet if I can help it. She will probably flip out if she sees him again so soon! LOL Anyway, thanks for reading this and any ideas would be appreciated.
