Well you did prove my point, that it isn't normal for a puppy that age to be
snappy, and something must be bothering her....which is her blindness. So
now I would say, call her name first to wake her and do not put your face
into her face until she is awake and then give her a kiss.

What caused her blindness in the one eye? Can the Vet tell if she has full
vision in the other eye?

Yes she has been thoroughly vet checked-Dewormed the whole 9 yards. The
ortho doc has checked her knees, elbows, etc, and bloodwork normal. I work @
my vets office so she's had it all.
I only tapped her nose once as I don't believe in hands on type
discipline-was definitely a reaction on my part. We have quite a few clients
with puppies that show this behavior but they all accept it.. I talked with
a vet yesterday in my area who frequents behavioral seminars-she believes
that it it may be her blindness in the one eye (since she has no apparent
health issues), and I should continue working on this.
The only time she does this is when I approach her with my face when she is
sleeping-she never does it any other time-so my approach will be different &
we will see what happens. When she sleeps in my laps or in bed she does not
display this type of behavior. It's only when she's sleeping on the couch &
I approach her with my face. I said she wasn't being startled but it's
apparent that might just be it-we shall see. Otherwise-she's a sweet Lil gal

My first thought is that something is bothering her. She's only 3 mo old, so
real aggression is unusual at that age. Possible leg or knee problems or
tummy problems that you haven't detected yet? Most puppies don't snap
unless they are not feeling well. Maybe a check up is in order. Has she been
wormed? If not, a fecal test should be done. Could also be an imbalance
thyroid, that has also been known to make dogs snappy for no reason.

Does she snap when you are playing with her, or when she is awake but
resting on your lap?

I wouldn't tap her nose as that is a sign that you are challenging her, not
controlling her. Just a stern reprimand and walk away is all that is needed
at that age.

Hi Everyone,
I'm noticing some behavior in Charlotte (3 mos chi), that I have never
experienced and do not like. My other 2 dogs are sweet, well behaved, loving
even tempered loves. I've worked with them & they are such wonderful
dogs-well trained & very respectable. (altho they've trained me well too)
LOL
I've noticed when I lean over to kiss Charlotte when she's sleeping she
snaps @ my face. The first time she did this I was shocked! Did it again and
couldn't believe it-my feelings were hurt. Then I went to move her & she
growled. I gave her a 'no' command each time but she doesn't even react to
the command. I tapped her nose once & said 'no', but she just curled up &
when back to sleep. I will not accept this behavior so I make a point of
bothering' her sometimes when she's sleeping so we can work on this. Anybody
have any other ideas?
Lynda
