Personally, I wouldn't let a 'scope near it - they're sensitive to 
overvoltage and you don't know what voltage you've got. Another trick is to 
get a 10 meg resistor and put an ammeter in series to find out what your kv 
is.

Personally, it sounds like bvreaking down in the secondary windings - open 
circuit (arcing) or insulation breakdown. If the transformer makes noise on 
no load, it's toast.

Then, try your tv suppliers. Most of these hv transformers are made by a few 
companies in the Far East. If there's a number on it, they can sometimes 
order it in for you.
