What Brody has not said is that this particular oscilloscope has an alternate to the mains power in that it can accept a DC supply of 20 to 30V or a battery pack (with charging facilities built into the instrument). It therefore generates from the mains input, a single DC voltage which, if I recall correctly, supplies most of the electronics as well as a DC/DC converter to generate other required voltages. I presume that this is the function of the second transformer. I would have to dig out the manual for my, now non-functioning, BWD540 to take this further.
