One of the tube (valve) companies' last gasps was the nuvistor.

I still maintain a few well logging tools for customers with nuvistor
electronics in em.  I also have a magnet charger with a big old ignitron in
it that fires the capacitor bank into the coil...it is kind of spooky to
use.
