If you are accessing the ZFS dataset via both CIFS and NFS/locally
it's better to have nbmand=on but if you are only accessing it via
CIFS, turning nbmand=on should not make a difference.

I'm a bit confused here, do you see the problem when nbmand is on
or off?

What type of client you are using to mount the CIFS share?

What exactly you mean by "cannot edit files"?

A network trace from the failed edit operation would be useful.
Also the output of the following script which you should run
on your Solaris box:

I use opensolaris snv_122 on an HP laptop. In order to use the CIFS client (to
mount windows shares) do I need to mount the zfs file system (my home
directory) with the 'nbmand=on' option?

The reason I'm asking is because I see some strange problems when I mount a
CIFS share:

I cannot edit files with gedit or openoffice writer.

I have posted another thread on this issue in this forum (it's called Operation
not applicable).
Thank you very much.
