Personally, I'd stick with the "SVN" version. What does "lot of time" mean?

Thanks for the info. By "a lot of time" I meant having to install a ton of dependencies on Fedora Core 3 to get the latest to work. I also have Gentoo boxes which I don't trust the emerge versions of Cinelerra dependencies to work with so I compile all the dependencies I need from source. I had a devil of a time getting the MJPEG tools installed and wound up having to install a devel version of those to which would up being a suite that has a slightly different name. And installing libjpeg-mmx was a bit interesting since I've never used a compiled lib that I didn't run a "make install" on. Anyway... some of that is probably due to my choices of distro and a good chunk of it probably due to my ignorance about the real compile requirements. Sadly, as many times as I've tried to pick up C as a language that I really know, I'm not a C coder. :(
