Usb gives:

Timing buffered disk reads: 82 MB in 3.06 seconds = 26.81 MB/sec
I did experiment with firewire and here is the result:

/dev/sde:
Timing buffered disk reads: 72 MB in 3.07 seconds = 23.47 MB/sec
how is that you get more transfer rate from USB than from fw?
is your drive dual? can you give me your exact model?
