Yes, John, that's the way it's supposed to work, and I can't remember
if I got the repository in there like that, but I seem to remember that
the "Reload" wouldn't run afterwards.
By editing the sources.list file manually and entering the commands
from a terminal command line everything worked well.
It may have been I did something wrongly with synaptic and it's error
checking is more strict than apt-get, but that's what worked for me.
