Hmm, that would be a huge list and with new player devices appearing
each week, IMO unrealistic to maintain.
Almost as good would be to start with basic (== most compatible) settings and
mark critical options (i.e. not supported by all decoders) as such.
Fortunately, most encoding options (i.e. rate control, motion estimation
method) only affect the encoding process without making the bitstream
incompatible for not-so-good decoders.
Beginners won't change the basic settings, advanced users will do a
compatibility test before transcoding their whole movie collection for a
particular target.
