* Work well with tiling window managers
With ion3 there is a bug which lets it hang at startup.
Of course such just needs to be tested in lumiera, so far it works
fine.
have same bug. After changing layout cinelerra starts and then works
right.
yes i know, just default doesnt work.
* Multi Head
This means multi head as in non-xinerama, sending windows to other
displays (and configure this) is really important. For example i'd
like to have a extra monitor which is driven at the *native* video
resolution with all its details (interlacing, overscan, framerate)
only this gives true professional preview. We really want that!
IMHO sending video and audio to FireWire will be good enough. For most
cases external _video_ displays are connected via some special hardware
which should have special drivers.
Well, thats the 'PRO' case where one has special hardware. but (in
contrast to the 'MultiServer' thing) this is intended to make a poor
mans proffessional setup who doesn't have this kinds of extra hardware.
* Multi server
Display GUI components on different Xservers, some critical
components (GL rendering etc) might be only supported on local
displays
Thats nice to hear. I stated this is not a very important feature and
when it makes problems to implement, then better leave it out for
now. But anyways, gigabit (or even 10GBit) network should be fast
enough for sending texture data around. Such setups are anyway on the
upper end of the equipment range, who wants it could afford
reasonable network equipment too but it is not a feature for the most
of the users.
Actually It will be very common if we provide such feature. For example
I would like to have some windows on my laptop's screen to free
workspace on my desktop.
Thats how i use laptop and desktop for programming, with emacs frames on
both displays over xforwarding (over wlan!). I dont know how complicated
will that be from the implementation standpoint. Maybe Joel investigates
this, definitely a nice to have.
* 3x3 Menus
Yes I know many of those, there are a lot menu systems based on some
kind of radial idea (Hex is common). But all those together are
rather very alien for normal users. Thats why I thought about the 3x3
dialpad menu which should be a familar compromise between classic
pulldown menus and the rather fancy 'others'. It also exploits some
more usability since it can be driven in more ways (mouse, shortcuts,
cursor keys, numpad) on the expense of having only 8 useable entries
per level. We just need to convince joel just more to make a
prototype :P
IMHO efficient UI much better then "like other". But yes 3x3 menu with
key acceleration like keypad will be very good. I would like to edit
video without mouse at all.
my thinking :)
One more thing.
I would like to have a way to control playback with game input device
such as joystic or joypad. Most game devices has analog axises which
will be very useful for changing playback speed or control some faders.
I am not GUI programmer, but after all i think these devices just
generate input events (maybe even X events) which should be handled.
Maybe we make a controller plugin interface for that, then this is
easily extensible. Abusing all kinds of gadgets as cheap video
controllers seems to be high on the list of wanted features. We will
support that.
