Hi Doug! If you have a MiniDV camcorder you can grab your files in RawDV format. Cinelerra will like it.
I use Kino or dvgrab for grabbing from my MiniDV camera. Yes, you can keep your source files inside folders and subfolders. If you move your source files during editing you might run into troubles.
