Hi Doug!

My camcorder is an old Sony 8mm digital. I will recapture the files and delete the ones that I have saved as Avi files there are only a few.

You can converto to RawDV the files already captured.
Importing them in Kino will do.

You can also use ffmpeg
        ffmpeg -i file.avi file.dv

but you might discover that your ffmpeg is packaged with no support for
some codecs.

As to the folders with mpeg files in them Cinelerra does not seem to be able to see the files when I open the folders. They do not show up in the cinelerra load window. I should be able to load mpeg video files from the folders, shouldn't I?

Yes, you should.
Make sure dialog you get the right format filter in the Load dialog. That is the last but one text field. Click on the white arrow on the
right to open a dropdown menu.
Selecting * will show you all the files, any format. Or you can choose
the filter for the format you want (e.g.
[*.avi][*.mpg][*.m2v][*.m1v][*.mov])

Ciao!
Raffaella

Oh My Gosh, do I feel dumb! I've been reading tutorials, troubleshooting etc. I have loaded a lot of files in Cinelerra successfully and still did not realize I could change the filters I was using. I am surprised I have not run into that problem long before now. Thanks Doug
