Is there any advantage to compile from sources even if i got akirad

Not really.
Akirad packages and add non-English language support for Cinelerra (and
automatically set shmmax to 0x7fffffff).
On the other hand when you compile Cinelerra you have the latest source,
that is a better application.
To know which improvements you are missing, check the commit list at:
http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=j6t/cinelerra.git;a=shortlog
(as a reference for the age of your Cinelerra use the date of the
Settings->Preferences->About tab)
If you are tempted to compile Cinelerra you might want to wait for the
imminent release of CinelerraCV 2.1.5
Ciao
Raffaella
PS: Are you saying that you are happily running the package for Ubuntu
10.04 on Ubuntu 10.10?
