No, I'm on 10.04 and not going to 10.10. (That was Patrick who was
looking for cinelerra for Maverick) i did stop changing every six
months. I'll keep with LTS versions I think.

Not really.
Akirad packages and add non-English language support for Cinelerra
(and automatically set shmmax to 0x7fffffff).
On the other hand when you compile Cinelerra you have the latest
source, that is a better application.
To know which improvements you are missing, check the commit list at:

(as a reference for the age of your Cinelerra use the date of the
Settings->Preferences->About tab)
If you are tempted to compile Cinelerra you might want to wait for the
