We were quite excited when the ME3600 came out with the eompls feature set in a 
relatively inexpensive edge device.  We were finally able to get rid of layer 2 
everywhere and it's been great!

If you're able to dump layer 2, I'd seriously consider it.  If every device in 
the chain supports eompls and you have physical core facing link diversity, 
there's no compelling reason to use L2 in the core, is there?
