You may have already read this since I see your name
on the cittern list. The "PG" referred to is a
Portuguese Guittara. Here is an excerpt:

Here is the current paired string arrangement on my
PG:

High a 0.010 in. steel
e 0.014 in. steel
c 0.018 in. steel
G 0.022 in Phosphor Bronze wound
D 0.030 in Phosphor Bronze wound
Low A 0.040 in Phosphor Bronze wound

At 18.5 in. scale length (470 mm) the individual
string tensions
range from about 13.7 to 15.7 lb for a total string
tension of 170
lb. - Sorry about all the English system measurements
{;{)}

Strung, this way, the PG plays like a 12-string guitar
capoed up 5
and is fairly easy to transpose when playing along
with other
instruments.

BTW, I bought this PG from Salaomusical de Lisboa via
the web. David purchased a similar instrument, but
found it too loud and harsh. It _is_ a bit harsher
than the guittar or cittern played by Doc Rossi on his
Magnatune album, but ignorance is bliss and I enjoy
the poor bastardized instrument, anyway. It will be
in use at the New England Folk Festival, this weekend,
in Natick, MA (www.neffa.org) when I perform with "The
Jolly Rogues." (www.jollyrogues.com) If you surf on
over to http://www.jollyrogues.com/group.jpg

and look to the right, I'm the geek in blue with the
modified Portuguese Guittar. The others are group
members and the mayors of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire,
UK.
