Hi everyone,
I have to speak up on this issue. Ask any Bearded Collie breeder from
the 70's and 80's about their issues on trimming. My best friend went
through the same grooming issues that we are going through with the Cavalier.
The Beardie was to be a natural specimen, including feet, however when the
AKC handlers and judges got hold of the Breed, well, look for yourself.
I am not anti AKC, however, I do believe that the majority can rule.
What is happening at the judging seminars, and why aren't folks speaking up
when they know for sure that a dog is trimmed? Certainly when every little
hair is in place they are more appealing to the judge who does not live with
the breed, or the observer from ringside, or the novice who realizes that
these are the dogs who win.
Ever hear the three legged dog story? One judge put up a three legged
dog at a show, bragged how great it was, another judge put up the dog, and
another etc. At ringside were three new breeders watching this three legged
dog win and low and behold when it came time to breed they bred for a three
legged dog so they could win at shows. Stupid story, but has a point. Now
what about grooming, isn't the same thing happening. Judges, handlers, and
new breeders are going to become more powerful than the backbone breeders of
the Cavalier. Eventually everyone grooms to be able to compete at the AKC
level. ( I am not knocking new breeders!!)
What is my point? A Nation divided falls. Everyone stand together and
stand up for what you believe, be a majority.
Good morning everyone, have a great day
Kaye Ames
PS My dear friend imports her Beardies (beautiful specimens) and yes she
does groom minimally so that she can compete at the AKC shows. She still
grouches about having to groom the Beardie to be able to compete.
