Hi, Judy,
I hate to think that anyone out there is lurking around collecting
information for ethics complainst or lawsuits, but I have a recollection
of someone's lawyer actually coming onto a list to ask for information
about an ongoing case. There is no privacy in a forum such as this, but
the illusion that there IS can be dangerous. An ethics complaint should
be no different than a lawsuit; information obtained with proper
attribution/provenance could be used against one. The difficulty with
ethics procedures as I see them is that there are no rules of evidence
built into them as safeguards.
It is so much easier to gather information this way than to hire a
private investigator or spend time finding witnesses. I DO find it a
bit ugly, but then I find my profession hard to take from time to time.
