I am in a similar position as no doubt others who live outside the USA and
bought AKC only registered dogs from former members of the CKC-USA. It's my
understanding, that for a time after the split we were allowed to register
our foreign owned-US born-AKConly registered dogs and compete in CKC-USA
events. However, the regulations were changed two or three years ago. If
we wish to compete in CKC-USA events, we must either buy a dual registered
dog born in the USA, a CKC-USA only registered dog, import one from
somewhere outside the USA, or breed our own outside the USA.

There is more on this in the Archives 18th November 2000 "Re AKC Only Stud
Dogs". I gather the rule was changed since some US breeders wanted to
export dogs to Canada, register them as Canadian owned, then "import" them
back to the USA.

Of course, I can't show my CKC-USA only registered girl in the AKC either...
so it's not a one way street. It is however a big mess. Fortunately, my
US, UK or Bermuda born cavaliers don't seem to care where they're registered
and get along just fine.
