I've had several calls and emails asking me to name my friends who work in the city,
since I said in my long post that many of you you might know them... one
of my friends is Cindy Keenan - Cindy doesn't work downtown, but in mid-Manhattan. On
her way to work yesterday she and many others were told to turn around
and go home, so while she was already in a position to see the smoke, etc., she did as
she was told and went back home.
Today she is still at home, since the tunnels, etc., are still closed and she has
actually no way to get into the City. Denis Montford did telephone her to
ascertain that she was OK...she was most touched!
The other friend is my friend Alexa, an Australian Terrier breeder, who visited
some of you when she and I were in the UK in the summer of 1994....Maurene,
you might remember Alexa better than some, since you two had such a good time talking
about the things growing in your garden..... Alexa works for the NYPD,
which is right downtown not far from the WTC - fortunately, she was scheduled to be
off from work yesterday to attend the AKC Delegates' meeting. She never
got to the meeting, either, which ended up being a good thing, as she lives on Staten
Island and the meeting was in Newark....if she'd made it to the meeting
she'd still be in New Jersey, since there was no way to get from there back to the
city or to Staten Island. She was going to try to go to work today...
I've verified with the show superintendent that the Lehigh weekend is still on.
Marilyn, I hope you get there with no difficulty. If our local airports
don't open by then, I guess I will have to drive......hopefully, all of us who planned
to be there will be, and I hope no one has any horror stories to tell.
Still no recoveries, living or dead, from the crash at the Pentagon ... fires
under control but still burning. However, the Pentagon IS open for
business.....even the shops down in the Mezzanine! How's that for gutsy?
