Suze,
I appreciate what you had to share about the split gene pool and
unfortunately, the saddest truth is the lack of forgiveness of the original
founders of American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club. For whatever the
reason, the old club and american club don't seem to be willing to act in
the best interest of our beloved cavalier. I don't care that they did not
meet the criteria for continuing membership according to a old club ruling,
particularly since the old club made the mistake not to be the akc parent
club. But it is done, it is history. We must move on for the sake of our
breed. We can't have resentments and be spiritual fit to make positive
changes that benefit the dogs and its members. It makes me sad that we can't
work together to use the heart clear lines that can truly make a difference
in the health and well being of the cavalier king charles spaniel and those
that choose this breed to share their heart and home. Unfortunately, you
can't legislate emotional maturity.Worst of all, knowing that change is
necessary (and we do) and refusing to take the steps that lead to change
results in frustration which results in additional stress that comes from
frustration. I think every akc registered cavalier that wants to register
with the old club should have that option. It is the personal responsibility
of each companion or breeder to screen each potential purchase or stud usage
based on the knowledge we have about improving the health of this breed.
Everyone would benefit by having more choices among longer living cavalier
lines. If people can put aside their differences and look at the opportunity
we have to make a difference in the cavalier king charles spaniel then we
can take pride in knowing we did the best we could to be a part of the
solution not the problem. Just my humble opinion.
