Firstly, I have yet to meet a snippy, growly Cavalier -- that aggressive temperament is so foreign to this breed that there are surely very few who exhibit such behavior. Quite frankly, four years would be too long a time to live with such a dog of any breed.
Secondly, I find it hard to believe that anyone would prefer the early demise of their Cavalier just because the dog is not "typey". When one considers that the vast majority of our puppies are sold as companions for children and families in general, I doubt very much if these families would care how the dog looks as long as it lives. One of my first Cavaliers was homely and I was thrilled that she lived over 14 years. I would not have changed her for the world -- her best attribute? She made me laugh every day for 14 years.
