Julie said it so well.  I have rarely in 40+ years of breeding and
showing, co owned.  If I do not trust the people enough to believe they
are going to ask for my help and that they will do the right thing for
the puppy they get from me, then I don't let them have one of my
babies.  Having said that, I do not condem people who do co own if that
is what they and their purchasers are comfortable with.  I do however,
condem the pyramid scheme that some breeders have of getting a puppy or
puppies back from every bitch they sell.  This goes on quite a bit in
some breeds and I have heard of it happening with Cavaliers as well.

Further, on co owning AKC registered dogs, many people are not aware
that even if the dog does not reside with you any more that,  as co
owner, you MUST keep the very same breeding, litter, etc. records that
the owner does.  If you do not and AKC comes knocking at your door, you
will not be in compliance.
