Susan I'm behind with my reading, and wonder what words of advice others have for you, but haven't got time to search.
I had a bitch with the same problem; the discharge was green, almost black. The vet was useless, claiming that it was a phantom rather than real pregnancy! At about 60 days she started whelping. To cut a long story short, she had to have a Caesar, resulting in 6 dead puppies being retrieved. Apparently they (or maybe the first one) died several days before. I would wait until 60 days, checking daily for heartbeats and then have a Caesar to make sure. I really hope all is going to be well.
