Hi, Kim:
Is Milkeyn Felicity a litter sister to my Milkeyn blenheim that we got at the
same time? Just curious. My bitch's first litter consisted of 4 puppies, three
dead ones following one live one. Terrible experience. Her first puppy that
came out alive had to be pulled out back feet first -- thought I was going to
pull off a leg. I have been breeding for 15 years, so I'm not a novice! I'm in
the process of testing her for everything and planning on breeding her again when
she comes in (a year after the first breeding). She passed her eye and heart
exams two weeks ago, has good hips (these were all done by specialists), and
I've had a profile and complete blood count done on her and she is in great
condition. I am going to have a culture and sensitivity test done when she has
her first or second day of heat. I'm going to a fertility vet that I've heard
about -- she has a great reputation and is a breeder herself.
Her one and only little daughter is a darling and has already got two CKCSC,
USA, points with her wonderful owner, Dorothy Swanson.
I am going to breed this Milkeyn bitch to my only male, Maxwell, a tricolor,
an AKC champion and a James son. He was tested two weeks ago by specialists and
passed his yearly heart and eye exams. He is going to be seven years old in
November, so I'm very happy that he still has a good heart. His hips have been
done by a specialist, too, and they are good. I really wanted to breed her to a
blenheim owned by someone on the List but I've got so much money tied up in the
breeding of this bitch that I am going to use my own dog this time. He gives
nice, healthy, well- marked tris and a blenheim or two. I've got to brag on him
and say that he has produced two champions, both tricolors. But I wanted all
blenheims and I won't get that now. I just need to see if she can have a litter
without a bunch of dead puppies. If this doesn't work, I'll have her spayed and
keep her as a pet. Wish me luck.
She is due to come in heat the first week of February. And some people say
their favorite thing about breeding is whelping!!! Thought I'd put in my two
cents about breeding and how difficult it can be, even when you're doing
everything right.
Best regards,
Jimmie Lee Roberts
