Dear Susan

I am so sorry to hear of the troubles your correspondent is having with his
dog.

I think it is probably a stroke. My former husband's ruby seems to have had
one at 3 years old, which also paralysed her back legs. The investigations
and results were similar to Ben's. Samantha could not even stand to be
toileted and it got to the point where I was going to have her here with me
for some tlc. However, the night before he was due to bring her my ex rang
to say that she suddenly stood up and walked, stiffly and slowly, but walk
she did. After that her recovery was swift.

I am no longer in touch with the ....... so I have no indication whether
anything like this has recurred.

Also, my dog Angus had many strokes during his old age. He had a weakness in
his back legs at the very end of his life, but at almost 17 how do you know
the difference between stroke damage and weakness?

Hope some of this helps
