Hi Laura,

AKC will suspend priveleges of anyone who is convicted of animal cruelty.
Is this perhaps what you remember hearing? Here is a link to AKC's site
page where AKC has it's position statements:

The statement about animal cruelty is in the statement about Proper Care
and Humane Treatment of Dogs.
