> You bring up good points. It is very difficult to explain to someone that
when buying a dog, now is not the time to bargain hunt. They understand it
after they get a dog with major problems. What can the breed clubs do? Any
ideas?

There is a good discussion going on in the Hoflin List about this right now.
Some very valid points being made. Things like brokers and backyard
breeders being readily *accessible* because they advertise in the newspaper
and no matter what reputable breeders do, the majority of pet buyers seem to
think of going to the newspaper first to find their next puppy.

Some suggest that breeders or clubs occasionally advertise in the newspaper
alongside the brokers and backyard breeders. It would be nice to have a
national phone number anyone seeing the ad could call where information
could be relayed in some way. Otherwise the breeders themselves would have
to do the educating. I'm sure we all have plenty of time for that. LOL!

If anyone is interested and is not already on the Hoflin List--this is a
good time to join.
