This is an excellent point and I'll add to it that testing for MVD, RD,
hips, patellae, etc. may well sort things out as was mentioned before in
Basenjis; inadvertent selection for only certain health conditions may
cause others. I believe that the same thing happened in Dalmations with
selection for spots...did it not? I think you are so right in pushing
us to look at the whole dog; provided we look at the health of the whole
dog as well. To my mind it is no more conscionable to breed a dog with
epilepsy who has a clear heart than it is to breed a dog with a severe
murmur.
And, no I don't want to lose type either. Good breeders want it all.
And, having it all doesn't come cheaply for sure. I hope that my posts
on stud fees were taken the way they were meant.......not that one
should be out shopping for a bargain, but rather that outrageous fees
will cause more outrageous fees and finally the middle class breeder
will not be able to afford it "all".
