I would choose a beautiful male. They are softer/sweeter/more elegant AND they do not do spiteful things like look you right in the face while they pee all over the thing they're standing upon. They have a conscience. They know their place! LOL! They respect, defer to, and are happy to serve females and they are companionable and game for whatever you ask them to do! Yes, indeed, if I could have only one dog, it would be a beautiful, show quality, intact male, whatever its breed, but especially a Cavalier.
