The same applies here in the UK the certificate only lasts for a year. We
can get a litter screened up to 13 weeks old - no individual certificate is
issued - just one certificate that identifies each puppy individually. The
chap I go to likes to screen a litter at between 6 and 8 weeks he says that
the colouration hasn't developed at that age plus the fact that they don't
wriggle as much and seem to be mesmerised by the light from the scope!
I might say that there is a lot of controversy over the KC/BVA scheme and
quite a few breeders I believe are now using specialists that issue the
European certificate
