Peggy...Like you....I was operating on that assumption......but recently I
have discovered this may not be true.
Recently a 2.5 year old bitch that I sold to someone had her eyes checked at
a clinic. The owner was told that she had geographic in both eyes. I was
there with a few dogs as well and questioned the examiner....as I personally
had the bitch checked at 10.5 weeks....normal.... and then a year later she
was examined by a different Opth. who said she had some small folds in one
eye but that they were of no concern to him...and he really thought they'd go
away.
Incidentally, both parents were CERF'd as normal as puppies and every year
since then. So.....can anyone explain to me why we are testing at all if you
can breed a Normal to Normal and get a normal puppy who turns into a juvenile
fold that goes to geographic in both eyes by the age of two?
The examiner.....who is Board Certified...as were the previous two.....told
me she couldn't explain it...but that maybe the eyes just looked
normal.....but weren't really.
How can that be??
I am still investigating this....I have been told that some feel that there
might be a virus causing this....so it much be happening to others too. Any
other ideas?
