Peggy, unless you are very familiar with the German imports of the early 80s
that were imported as Schutzhund dogs and bred here for that purpose, it
really won't be of much use to tell you about our breeding program.  I doubt
very much that you would be familiar with the Schutzhund dogs on the West
coast 20 years ago.  The German imports at that time still had some hip
dysplasia, but the hips weren't severely angulated. We found the imports to
be healthier and to have much nicer temperaments.  And yes, by eliminating
affected dogs from our breeding program, we were eventually able to breed
puppies with a very, very low incidence of HD.  If cavalier breeders had
been doing the same for cavaliers in the 80s, we might not be dealing with
HD in these little dogs now.  Myra Savant
