ROFL it is a stew!! A very inexpensive stew made from traditionally the small neck chops off lamb but any cheap cut of meat could be used. Just put into a large pan cover with water add potatoes and any sort of veg (carrots, swede, cabbage, onion etc) salt and some herbs and simmered for hours until the water reduces and the meat literally falls off the bone. You used to go to St John's market in Liverpool late on a Saturday evening (in the days before refrigeration) and buy meat and veg cheaply. In fact they would parcel up a "stew pot" of veg for one shilling (5p) and 2 shillings (10p)worth of neck chops would feed a family! Just don't get me started on spare ribs and cabbage!! Another regional "delicacy" particularly on a Saturday night after visiting the local hostelry (pub in other words! VBG)
