Cathy,
Dixie was in excellent condition (still is & cardiology heart clear over the
age of 5), with very sound structure, big melting eyes, correct size, long
ear feathers, and superb temperament. Her only fault was mismarks but we
still placed in CKCSC, USA and won in AKC. Transportation and divorce
complications prevented a second breeding to the original stud dog because I
had moved back to SC from Oregon. I had the opportunity to use my own
black&tan which I had purchased because the bloodlines were the same instead
of going to the outcross for a repeat breeding. I had planned on using the
return service the following year. The wholecolor puppies I kept have placed
and the ruby has recently won Best Bred by Exhibitor back to back under
Hilary McQuaid and James McQuaid breeder/judges from England.I am very proud
because I was competing primarily with particolors. The black & tan just
gave a natural birth to 7 puppies (1DOA) with no complications whatsoever,
so the uterine inertia, thus far, has not been carried down to the
offspring. Thank goodness. Pat Trotter in "Born to Win" suggested not to
use a bitch in your breed program that did not whelp easily or naturally
so...when my vet suggested it was in her best interest, I agreed. Dixie is
the Granddaughter of Salador Corrigan and Kindrum Alice. I have no regrets
and I have two very nice bitches to carry me forward.

It would be nice to have the option to use the return stud dog for her
offspring if he offered what either of them needed to improve the breed
since he is heart clear and older. But I respect the decision the stud dog
owner made.

Thanks for the feedback.
