Hi Glenn, It sounds like you are finding it hard to resist Cavalier charms:) 3/4 cup 2x a day sounds like a lot of volume for any size Cavalier. My Aussies get close to that amount and they are at least 4x the dog! California Natural is an excellent food. I have not looked at the reduced. Do they add fillers, cut out fat, or both? I really do believe most dogs do well on a nutrient and calorie dense food-just less of it. We all need a certain amount of fat in our diets for proper function-fat soluble vitamins etc. -not just for a pretty coat. Dogs are opportunistic little parasites-I say this in the most endearing way! Our ancestors must not have been able to resist those eyes either-didn't this play a big part in domestication?
Also remember, behaviors are strengthened by a variable schedule. If you share a bite of something just once in awhile-you strengthen the begging behavior. They never know when it might pay off, so they try every time.
