I have seen several torn off toenails not dewclaws and every single time it has occurred in a metal wire crate. As far as blood being so abundant to be a factor in dew claw removal. Have you ever seen how much blood comes out of a show dogs nails severely cut back for ring when the bloodstopper does not work or isnt used? We do not stop cutting toenails. I still have metal crates but the dogs seem to get caught up in them more often than my plastics. I do not think I will ever do dewclaws on Cavaliers. Now I need bifocals I just hope I do not cut their toes off when I am trimming their nails. Nails used to not be that hard to see. Labs jump up and hug around waist and sometimes scratch you I may still do them for that stupid reason.Chere
