This was in reference to torn off regular nails not dewclaws which include
thumb removal. Actually the spinal chord is not fully developed until 2 - 3
weeks and supposedely they do not remember their removal or the pain
according to the New Knowledge of Dog Behavior book which is so new it was
problably written in the 50's where they did all kind of strange breeding
studies and training and disection I have not seen dew claws bleed. I think
that is the name of the book it was a great book but no one in their right
mind would today do the kinds of studies they did regarding formative time
periods etc. They would be probably imprisoned or hung by animal right
activists. Actually I think Dew Claws should be personal preference not
mandated. I just cannot do such tiny babies. I cannot even give them their
shots whereas I have no problem at all doing the same things to the larger
Labradors. Chere Workman
