This is an extremely important point. If it was not, John and Robert would
not be so adamant about it. At the last Club show she judged, Mrs. Anne
Rogers Clark told one exhibitor to get up off her knees and to stand and show
her dog free baited. If it weren't important I doubt that Mrs. Clark would
have made an issue out of it.

It doesn't matter that Andy showed well with his handler crouching down to
bait him at eye level - he'd show well if the handler went to make a phone
call and left him in the ring all alone. He's a superb show dog. We are not
making personal comments about Taffe - anyone who knows anything about the
professional dog show world knows that she is one of the most famous handlers
in the country. It's the idea that if you give a a little, eventually you
end up giving a lot. What comes next - scissor sculpting and dying accepted
as SOP? Standing up allows our dogs freedom of movement and expression. It
also makes the statement that our Cavaliers are not just another pretty toy
dog. Very importantly, it is our tradition. I guess some of us value that
more than others.
