Interesting post to me................. as I have experienced such a
"paulsey" in the face of one of my dogs.

At 7 years old, my UK Ch, Le Monde had, what looked on the surface to have
been a stroke.

Initially, he couldn't stand up because he was so unbalanced and the whole
side of his face seemed to be affected. His head was tilted severely to one
side, he couldn't blink one eye, his mouth was immobile on that side, so food
became trapped because there was no sensation.

My vet examined him thoroughly but could find nothing apparent. In the
interim he put him on a short course of anti-biotics and steroids. He also
decided to speak to a Neurological Specialist. The Neurologist thought at 7
he was rather young to have had a stroke (clot to the brain) and suggested my
vet xray his ears from inside his mouth.

Lo and behold, he had a perforated inner ear! Undetectable by normal
examination because it was so deep in the ear drum. When we looked at the
xrays, even I could see the damage.

He is now 11 and although bodily, he looks great, facially he looks like an
old wisened man. However, his head tilt is only slight and he has full use of
his eye and face muscles.

After the initial steroid/antibiotic treatment, time has been the healer in
this situation and I'm glad to say that he leads a perfectly normal life, was
still MVD clear in November 2001 and although only used at limited stud by
myself, still siring.

Obviously, I am grateful that he has been able to return to a pretty normal
way of life but after such a stunning show career, of which I am very proud,
I was SO looking forward to showing him as a veteran. I even entered him for
Crufts last year then chickened out taking him!!

I would be very interested to know what the outcome is on your little one.

Best
