Hello, I just wanted to send a quick email and introduce myself as a new member to this chat group. I live in Tampa and have the pleasure of owning 2 blenheim dogs, one is about 4 months and the other 11 months.
I have no immediate plans of showing dogs, but like most Cavalier owners, I am smitten by the breed and want the best for my dogs. One thing that concerns me a great deal is that one(my older) seems to have allergy problems...at least that is what my vet seems to think. I wish I could imitate for you the noise he makes but I don't have the words to be that creative! It is sort of a nasally sound that happens 2-3 times/day and seems to occur most frequently after walks(on a leash). His chest also seems to heave out during these episodes. When he does this it is startling and also pains me to see his obvious discomfort. My vet gave him a cortisone shot to see if it would help, but it has not seemed to do much good. Oh...before he was also licking his paws a lot. And the cortisone shot did actually seem to cause that to stop. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on this and whether this is typically a problem with Cavaliers as a breed. Thank you!
