Hi David, Welcome to the list. what you are experiencing with your dog is a common thing in cavaliers......it's not an allergy and does not require medical treatment. It's like a reverse sneeze or snort. When your dog starts doing this.....put your hand around the dogs muzzle and push his nose down towards his chest. Hold it there for about 10 seconds or so and then release. This should stop the spasm. Repeat if necessary. and please explain this to your vet. it's a characteristic in many cavaliers ususally brought on by his pulling on the lead or in a stressful situation.
